One of the easiest ways to reach Little Tiger Restaurant is directly from Merlin Beach. From the southern end of the beach, a set of concrete steps climbs the hillside towards the restaurant, making it an easy stop for lunch, a snack or a cold drink while spending time at the beach.
The climb is relatively short, and as you make your way up, the restaurant appears among the tropical vegetation above the shoreline. Rather than an enclosed dining room, Little Tiger has a simple, open-air design with plenty of tables positioned to take advantage of the elevated setting.
We visited in August during the quieter low season and had no difficulty finding a table. The restaurant has considerably more seating than was needed during our visit, however, which should help it accommodate the larger number of visitors around Merlin Beach during the busier months.
The best part of arriving from the beach comes once you reach the dining area. From just above the shoreline, the view opens across Merlin Beach and out towards the Andaman Sea, immediately revealing what is arguably Little Tiger’s greatest attraction.
If you are visiting specifically for the restaurant rather than spending time at Merlin Beach, you don’t need to approach from the sand. Little Tiger can also be reached from the road behind the restaurant, in the direction of Patong Elephant Hug, with parking available at the upper entrance.
The Setting and Views Over Merlin Beach
The standout feature of Little Tiger Restaurant is its elevated position above Merlin Beach. The open-sided dining area looks directly across the cove, with views extending over the beach, surrounding headlands and out towards the Andaman Sea.
Despite the impressive outlook, the restaurant itself is relatively simple and informal. There are plenty of tables spread throughout the open dining area, with much of the restaurant protected by a roof while remaining open to the sea breeze. It feels more like a relaxed beachside restaurant than somewhere designed around polished or formal dining.
We visited during the low season when Merlin Beach was relatively quiet, and that carried through to the atmosphere at Little Tiger. There was no sense of needing to rush our visit, and sitting above the beach with a cold drink while looking across the water was particularly enjoyable.
Where you sit can make a difference. If tables overlooking the water are available, we would choose one along the seaward side of the restaurant. The uninterrupted outlook across Merlin Beach is a large part of the reason to eat here and, for us, was the most memorable part of the visit.
The restaurant’s orientation also makes sunset worth considering. We visited during the day and did not stay to watch the sunset, so we can’t describe the experience first-hand. Even during our visit, however, the restaurant’s aspect made its potential as a sunset dining spot immediately apparent, and we discussed at the time how attractive the view should become towards the end of the day.

Little Tiger is particularly well placed to become part of a few hours exploring this quieter area south of central Patong rather than simply being somewhere you visit for a meal.
Merlin Beach sits immediately below the restaurant, making the most obvious combination a few hours swimming, snorkelling or relaxing at the beach followed by lunch, a snack or a cold drink at Little Tiger. From the southern end of the beach, the concrete steps lead directly uphill to the restaurant, so there is little need to move your car or scooter between the two.
Patong Elephant Hug is also located nearby on the hillside just behind Little Tiger. This creates the possibility of combining Merlin Beach, Little Tiger and the elephant sanctuary as part of the same morning or afternoon without travelling back towards central Patong between each stop.
How you arrange the three will depend on what you want to prioritise. You could spend the morning at Merlin Beach before walking up to Little Tiger for lunch, or visit the sanctuary and restaurant before heading down to the beach. Staying at Little Tiger later in the afternoon also gives you the opportunity to enjoy the restaurant’s elevated outlook as sunset approaches.
For us, this location is one of Little Tiger’s biggest practical advantages. You don’t necessarily need to travel here solely for the restaurant — it fits naturally into a wider visit to the Merlin Beach area.

Little Tiger Restaurant can be approached in two different ways, and the best option depends largely on whether you are also planning to visit Merlin Beach.
If Merlin Beach is your main destination, the easiest option is to use the public beach access and parking area. Once on the beach, walk towards the southern end, where concrete steps lead up the hillside directly to Little Tiger. It is a short climb and makes the restaurant particularly convenient for lunch, refreshments or a break during a day at the beach.
If you are visiting Little Tiger specifically for a meal, there is no need to walk in from Merlin Beach. You can drive up the hillside road towards Patong Elephant Hug and approach the restaurant from behind, where parking is available close to the upper entrance.
The restaurant also has toilets, which is useful given the limited public facilities around Merlin Beach. Diners can use them as part of their visit, while we were advised that people who are not eating or drinking at the restaurant can use the toilets for ฿20.

Yes. Little Tiger Restaurant is worth visiting, particularly if you are already planning to spend time at Merlin Beach or want somewhere relaxed to eat with beautiful coastal views.
Our own food experience was limited to a light snack, so we wouldn’t claim to have tested enough of the menu to judge the restaurant solely on its cooking. What we did order was very good: the spring rolls were beautifully presented and delicious, and the staff were friendly and polite throughout our visit.
What makes Little Tiger memorable for us is the complete setting. You can walk straight up from Merlin Beach, settle into the open-air restaurant and look back across the beach and Andaman Sea you have just been exploring. Despite being close to the Marriott resort, the restaurant retains a simple, informal character that suits its hillside location.
The prices didn’t strike us as particularly cheap, but they also didn’t feel excessive for the setting. Recent diners generally reinforce our positive impression of the restaurant, with the food, friendly service and especially the views recurring frequently in their experiences.
We would happily return, and next time we would probably time our visit for late afternoon. We didn’t stay for sunset on this occasion, but Little Tiger’s elevated outlook across the Andaman Sea makes that the experience we would most like to try next.
