Arriving at Lob Mhum Patong
The restaurant is slightly tucked away from the main road, so it is possible to drive past the entrance if you are not looking out for it. There is a sign at the start of the short lane leading in, and once you turn off the road the access is straightforward.
We arrived by scooter and had no problems with the lane. It is not really a fully sealed access road, but it is short, simple to ride and did not feel unsafe.
There is a good amount of informal parking at the front of the restaurant on a cleared area rather than in a marked or sealed car park. The toilets are also located near this parking area.
From there, you walk up a short set of steps into the restaurant grounds. That is where the setting really starts to make an impression. The lake, greenery and waterside huts immediately create a much calmer atmosphere than you might expect so close to Patong.
The Setting and Atmosphere
The waterside setting is what gives Lob Mhum Patong most of its appeal. The small lake sits at the centre of the restaurant grounds, with dining huts positioned around the edge and greenery helping to soften the whole space.
Even with other diners in nearby huts, the atmosphere during our visit remained peaceful. We could occasionally hear a laugh or movement from another group, but not their conversations, so the huts still felt comfortably separate without being completely isolated.
The view across the water also adds a lot to the experience. There are fish in the lake that regularly come close to the huts, which gives the setting a little extra life without making it feel busy or gimmicky.
What stood out most was the sense of having your own little area. It did not feel exclusive or formal, but it did feel relaxed and private enough to settle in, eat slowly and enjoy the surroundings. It was easy to imagine returning with family or friends and spending a longer meal here.
Seating Options at Lob Mhum Patong
There are three main seating styles at the restaurant, and they create quite different experiences.
The waterside thatched huts are the standout option. They sit around the lake and give each group its own semi-private space. The hut we chose had floor-style seating with cushions rather than conventional chairs. Even with a bad back, stacking a couple of cushions made it comfortable enough for the meal.
There are also other individual covered seating areas away from the immediate water’s edge. These still give diners their own defined space, but without the same lakeside aspect.
The third option is the more communal dining area closer to the main cashier and kitchen. This is also where the pool table is located, and it feels more like a conventional casual restaurant space.
For us, the waterside huts were clearly the most appealing choice. They are what make the restaurant feel distinctive and are a big reason we could imagine coming back with family or friends.
What We Ate
We kept lunch fairly light because we had already eaten earlier in the day. Our order included som tam, fried chicken, spring rolls and two smoothies.
The food was simple rather than elaborate, but it was well presented and genuinely enjoyable. The som tam and fried chicken gave us a good mix of fresh, spicy and savoury flavours, while the spring rolls made an easy additional snack to share.
The smoothies were much as expected — refreshing, straightforward and a good fit for a warm afternoon meal beside the water.
For us, the meal matched the setting well: relaxed, unfussy and easy to enjoy without feeling like the food needed to be the sole reason for visiting.
The Menu and Prices
The menu offers a broad mix of Thai dishes alongside a selection of Western-style options, so it should work well for groups with different tastes.
From what we saw, there was more than enough variety to cover a casual lunch or dinner without the menu feeling narrowly focused on one style of food. That makes the restaurant especially practical for families or groups where not everyone wants the same thing.
Pricing felt reasonable for Patong. It is not street-food or market pricing, but it also did not feel expensive. We would describe it as fairly typical mid-range pricing for the area, with the setting adding something extra to the overall experience.
