Improving Your Travel Business Discovery

More bookings rarely come from one change. Travellers must first discover your business, understand what you offer, trust the information they find and see a clear reason to choose you.

This page brings together guides covering each stage of that journey. Use them to identify possible gaps, understand traveller behaviour and find practical ways to strengthen how your business is discovered and considered online.

2026 Visibility Challenges

Travel businesses are no longer competing for attention in one place. Travellers move between search engines, social media, online travel agencies, destination guides, reviews and AI-assisted planning tools before deciding which businesses deserve closer consideration.

Discovery Is Spread Across Multiple Platforms

Travellers rarely rely on one source. Expedia Group found that, during the period before a travel purchase, 80% of travellers used an online travel agency, 61% used a search engine and 58% used social media. Businesses depending on only their website or one listing risk being absent from important parts of the discovery journey.

AI Is Becoming a New Discovery Layer

AI tools are beginning to compare destinations, summarise reviews and recommend businesses in response to detailed traveller questions. Google reports that users of AI Overviews and AI Mode feel they can make decisions faster and more confidently. The challenge for operators is ensuring that accurate and useful information about their business exists across the sources these systems draw upon.

Travellers Are Comparing More Options

Online travel agencies and comparison platforms are used for research even when travellers eventually book elsewhere. This places businesses beside many similar alternatives, making location, reviews, imagery, inclusions and clear points of difference increasingly important.

Trust Is Becoming Harder to Earn

Travellers have access to more content than ever, but not all of it feels credible. Booking.com found strong interest in using AI for travel planning, while only 6% of surveyed consumers said they fully trusted AI. As generic content, automated summaries and manipulated reviews increase, businesses need stronger and more consistent evidence that their experience is genuine.

Visibility Does Not Guarantee Bookings

Being discovered is only the beginning. Travellers still compare price, reviews, cancellation terms, previous experiences and the quality of available information before booking. Expedia Group found that 76% of consumers would pay more for a hotel with better reviews, demonstrating how trust and perceived value can outweigh visibility alone.

The evidence behind these challenges comes from Expedia Group’s traveller path-to-purchase research, its 2025 Traveler Value Index, Google’s research into AI-assisted travel decisions and Booking.com’s Global AI Sentiment Report.

Platform Competition Is Increasing the Cost of Visibility

Major booking platforms place large numbers of similar tours, rooms and activities beside one another—often with comparable prices and very strong review scores. This makes it difficult for travellers to recognise meaningful differences between operators.

These platforms also charge commission on completed bookings, while some offer additional visibility in exchange for increased commission. Operators can therefore become more dependent on marketplaces at the same time that the cost of acquiring each booking reduces their margin.

Understand Travel Discovery

Before travellers can choose or book a business, they must first become aware of the destination, understand what experiences are available and encounter businesses that appear relevant to their plans.

Travel discovery covers this wider journey—from early inspiration and information gathering to comparison, shortlisting and booking. Understanding that journey helps operators identify where their business may be missing or losing potential customers.

Improve Your Travel Business Visibility

Travellers may encounter a business through destination guides, search engines, maps, social media, reviews, booking platforms and AI-generated recommendations. Depending on only one channel can leave significant gaps in how and when a business is discovered.

Improving visibility means creating a clear and consistent presence across the places travellers use while researching a destination—not simply generating more impressions or website traffic.

Stand Out From Competing Travel Businesses

Travellers often compare businesses offering similar locations, itineraries, facilities, prices and review scores. On crowded booking platforms, even a highly rated business can appear interchangeable with dozens of alternatives.

Standing out requires more than claiming to provide excellent service. Travellers need to quickly understand what makes the experience different, who it is particularly suited to and why the available evidence supports choosing it over another option.

Turn Traveller Interest Into Bookings

Website visits, article views and social engagement indicate attention, but they do not guarantee that a traveller is ready to book. Many visitors are still comparing destinations, checking alternatives, discussing plans or waiting for greater certainty around dates and costs.

Businesses need to provide clear information, reduce uncertainty and give travellers a convincing reason to take the next step. Even then, the final booking may happen later or through a different platform.

Strengthen Your Content and Traveller Trust

Publishing more content does not automatically make a business more visible or persuasive. Generic descriptions, repeated claims and mass-produced articles can make businesses sound increasingly similar while providing travellers with little useful evidence.

Strong travel content should be specific, accurate and connected to the questions travellers are genuinely trying to answer. Technology can assist the publishing process, but human knowledge, editorial judgement and meaningful context remain essential for producing content people can trust.

How Travel With Insight Supports Travel Business Discovery

Many travel businesses become visible only after a traveller reaches a booking platform and begins comparing similar listings. Travel With Insight creates opportunities for businesses to appear earlier, while travellers are still learning about a destination and deciding what to experience.

Through destination guides, editorial articles and connected travel content, relevant businesses can become part of the information travellers use during their research. This does not replace a business website, booking platform or existing marketing—it adds another pathway through which the business can be discovered and understood.
